Topic

This term for topic we have been looking at systems and how they work.  We also looked at Natural Disasters on Youtube like earthquakes, tsunami's, flash flooding and volcanic eruptions.  We decide to try our own experiment by creating a farm scene with a volcano near by.  We wrote about what the effects may have on the environment eg. destroying the trees, polluting the rivers, destroying farm building and roads and the air being hard to breathe.  Here is what happened in our experiment.....

The eruption destroyed everything and it erupted really quickly.  We left it for a day and took these photo's of what it looked like after 24 hours.  Everything had blended into one.  It smelt and looked horrible but we loved doing this experiment.  We want to try it again but with sand next time.  Watch this space.

This term we have been following the Common Wealth Games. Rooms 2 and 18 were South Africa in the Trentham Common Wealth Games. Here are some of the photos from our fun day.

After the games we went to the school hall to watch the Closing Ceremony. We were also there to see who won the certificate from each class. The people who won the certificates from our class were Caitlin Dowling Joshua Tafuna and Breehana Keenan Dwan.  Mrs Su'a was the Queen. She also officially opened the Games.  Here are the photos.

We had a lot of fun during the Trentham Common Wealth Games.  Thanks Room 18 for being awesome sports and showing excellent team work!!


Room 2 has been working in small groups.We have also been looking at different groups that people belong to in our community. Here are some posters that we worked on together.

During Term 2 our class had good discussions about belonging to a group.  As part of this we talked about belonging to a sport group.  We played soccer every Wednesday after morning tea and we had to work well together in our teams.  Here are some photo's to share with you.

In Term 2 we were looking at changing the New Zealand Flag.  We planned and designed our own flags and these are our ideas.

This term we are looking at Citizenship as part of our Topic.  We will be looking at the different groups we belong to and why it is important to be part of a group.  We are very excited about this topic.  Already in our class we have found out that some of us belong to the same sports groups, social groups, school groups and ethnic groups.  We are looking forward to finding out more about Citizenship and will keep you updated.


In Room 2 we created some posters to show what keeps our heart healthy.  In small groups of 3 we cut out pictures of healthy food, exercise, water, sleep and sunshine.  Here are our posters.

In Term One Room 2 visited the Life Education Van.  These are some of our photo's that we took.

This is the Van we did our learning in.  Pretty cool eh!  We loved it because we have never had a lesson in the back of a van before.
